Bridging the Digital Divide through 1Malaysia Netbook in Hulu Selangor
I refer to the article titled BN MP 'in trouble' over 1Malaysia laptops that appeared in FMT on 31st May 2012.
The Malaysian Communication And Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has created an enriching initiative to bring the combination of technology and internet penetration to rural areas under their 1Malaysia Netbook Program. There are a set of detailed guidelines provided by MCMC on the selection of recipients for these 1Malaysia Netbook. The Hulu Selangor constituency is no different and strictly abide by these guidelines. For the readers information, the respective parliament offices recommend the list of recipients to MCMC and MCMC is the final approving body who decides who receives the Netbook. The parliament office is only a conduit for this noble initiative.
Towards kick starting this endeavor, for the area of Hulu Selangor the MCMC has allocated a total of 1000 netbooks via the first phase and 1589 netbooks via the second phase, while 2000 netbooks were allocated via the third phase. For the first two phases all the netbooks were allocated to students while for the third phase MCMC have decided that the allocation will be 65% for students and the remainder 35% for social and community leaders and the society at large in the determined area of Hulu Selangor. They have also broken the distribution process into 3 different phases based on the locality and availability of the netbooks for the Hulu Selangor area.
It is imperative that reports published are factual and accurate as prescribed and upheld by media organisations. It is very unethical and irresponsible of any media organisation that published reports without obtaining clarification from both parties, as it was the case in the above mentioned article published by FMT on 31st May 2012.
Overall the distribution process has been very successful but we would like a bigger allocation for next year so more students and members of the public can have access to a netbook. Programs like this one will have a huge impact on the society at large and bodes well for Malaysia’s future today and tomorrow. As the Member of Parliament I’m very happy to play my role as a facilitator in making this noble project a success for all Malaysians.

LISAN 1
Minta Menteri Kerja Raya memberi penjelasan terperinci mengenai status projek-projek jalanraya di Hulu Selangor seperti berikut;
a) Projek by-pass di antara Rawang dan Serendah,
b) Projek pelebaran Jalan Persekutuan FT 001 dari Rawang ke Tanjung Malim, dan
c) Projek PLUS Interchange Sungai Buaya.
LISAN 2
Minta Perdana Menteri menyatakan dengan terperinci:
a) jumlah peruntukan untuk Parlimen Hulu Selangor dalam Rancangan Malaysia Ke-10; dan
b) nyatakan jumlah yang telah disalurkan dan projek yang telah siap untuk Parlimen Hulu Selangor semenjak 2008 hingga sekarang serta senarai lengkap projek yang masih dalam perancangan.
LISAN 3
Minta Menteri Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan untuk menyenaraikan maklumat-maklumat seperti berikut;
a) projek-projek perumahan terbengkalai dan terbiar di Kawasan Parlimen Hulu Selangor,
b) siapakah pemaju projek-projek tersebut; dan
c) apakah perancangan kerajaan untuk menyelamatkan projek-projek tersebut.
LISAN 4
Minta Menteri Pelajaran menyenaraikan maklumat berikut;
a) jumlah peruntukan Kerajaan Persekutuan untuk pembangungan/penambahbaikan SJKT sejak tahun 2008 sehingga kini; dan,
b) senarai terperinci sekolah-sekolah yang telah menerima bantuan tersebut sejak tahun 2008 sehingga kini.

Minta Perdana Menteri menyatakan sama ada Kerajaan bercadang untuk membentangkan satu rang undang-undang khusus untuk melindungi hak dan kewajipan pekerja-pekerja asing dan juga majikan mereka.

Minta Menteri Kewangan untuk menyatakan jumlah pelaburan yang dianggarkan oleh 1 Malaysian Development Berhad (1MDB) yang boleh di salurkan ke dalam ekonomi negara dalam tahun akan datang serta apakah impaknya kepada rakyat biasa; dan,
a) nyatakan langkah-langkah yang telah dan akan di ambil oleh 1MDB untuk menyediakan peluang pekerjaan kepada belia-belia khasnya graduan-graduan tempatan.

Minta Menteri Kewangan untuk menyatakan sama ada Bank Negara Malaysia merancang untuk melongarkan syarat-syarat memberikan pinjaman kereta kepada pembeli-pembeli kereta khususnya kepada pembeli-pembeli kereta luar bandar yang tidak mempunyai dokumen-dokumen yang releven untuk mendapatkan pinjaman kereta tetapi mereka mempunyai keupayaan untuk membayar balik pinjaman ini dalam masa yang dijanjikan.

Minta Menteri Dalam Negeri memberi maklumat terperinci untuk perkara-perkara berikut;
a) jumlah rakyat Malaysia yang berketurunan India yang masih belum menerima sijil beranak, kad pengenalan dan sijil kewarganegraan sehingga kini,
b) daripada jumlah tersebut berapa ramai daripada mereka telah menerima dokumen-dokumen melalui kempen 'MyDaftar' & 'My Document'; dan,
c) apakah masalah dan cabaran yang di hadapi oleh Kementerian untuk menyelesaikan masalah ini dalam masa yang terdekat.

Minta Menteri Belia dan Sukan menyatakan apakah program yang dirancang dengan sistematik untuk membangunkan sukan prestasi tinggi di kalangan masyarakat orang asli, penan atau pribumi Sabah dan Sarawak.

Minta Menteri Pelajaran memberi penjelasan mengenai status liputan prasekolah sehingga kini; dan,
Sama ada Kementerian berjaya mencapai sasaran 87% sebelum 2012 yang di tetapkan oleh NKRA Pendidikan; dan,

BERSIH 3.0 - A TRIUMPH OF DEMOCRACY IN MALAYSIA?

Bersih 3.0: A Triumph of Democracy in Malaysia
As a student of international politics, it was with a measure of pride that I observed the unfolding of Bersih 3.0 yesterday. We are far from the finished article in terms of a transparent, functional democracy but the steps being taken towards it encourages me as to the future of our nation.
The running street battles and chemical-laced water cannons seemed to be a thing of the past and up until some hooligans (sadly, every nation in the world is saddled with them) thought it would be heroic to break through police barriers, the social media and internet were abuzz with remarks by rally-goers of the restraint shown by the police compared to previous rallies.
To blame the subsequent instances of police high-handedness on agent provocateurs is simplistic. Similarly, it is wrong for the police to blame the organisers for the actions of a few unruly idiots (I stress again, the world is full of them and they are a burden we must bear).
Where we apportion blame now is clear. The actions of opposition politicians who whipped up anti-government sentiment which in turn led to the actions of the idiots was completely unnecessary and must bear the brunt of the blame from the Malaysian public. They must bear the blame for causing ridicule to the country. They must bear the blame for causing damage to vehicles and property caused by a mob for the first time since 1969.
I am one of those who fervently subscribe to the aims put forward by Bersih and what they stand for. However, it is despicable of the Opposition to hijack the rally for their own political ends. Being non-partisan I wish for a better standard of democracy in Malaysia too. But turning a peaceful rally into a political one serves not only to raise heckles but deviates from the original purpose of the rally.
We know the system is imperfect and similarly too the authorities. But to lay all the blame at the door of the government is to absolve mischief-mongering opposition politicians of any blame. Fiery rhetoric only whips up the sentiments of idiots. And those idiots in turn caused what was a previously peaceful rally to turn violent.
However, the main thing I was delighted with is that Bersih 3.0 was further evidence of the growing political awareness of both the government and the people of Malaysia. It would seem like the lessons of the past general election and previous Bersih rallies are being learnt, albeit slowly.
The large majority of people who made their way into town were peaceful Malaysians united in their need to advance the democratic standards of the country. This contributed to a festive atmosphere being reported all over where crowds gathered.
Similarly, a large number of police personnel were equally restrained and their actions were commended all over the internet. This is a clear improvement on previous rallies. There were no more roadblocks for days prior on major arteries leading into the city. There were no more chemical-laced water cannons. Nor were there any mass arrest of opposition leaders as in previous years.
Sure, the tear gas did come out, there were instances of violence and there was also regrettable injuries on both sides. Aside from those that actively sought to unleash a rowdy and unruly mob on Kuala Lumpur’s streets, any further finger pointing would be fruitless and undesirable. Rather, I think we should be celebrating the improvements made in the implementation of Malaysia’s freedom of assembly laws.
I am also rejoicing that the Najib Razak government seems to be more disposed to accepting that dissenting voices too need to be given their space. It takes a lot for people to admit they are wrong and the gradual changes being made to laws and their implementation is not only an admission of previous mistakes but also a move to redress those wrongs.
To expect anything more than a gradual improvement is politically naïve. These are the so-called growing pains in the nation building effort. I am filled with pride that we are going through this transitional period for it means a better future is ahead for our beloved Malaysia. Hidup Rakyat! Hidup Malaysia!!
