SLUDGE AT 'OXIDATION POND' CLEARED AFTER 17 YEARS - THANKS TO IWK, SPAN & MDHS

I would like to thank Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) for resolving the frequent spillage problems of sewage and wastewater problems at Taman Serendah Indah Hulu Selangor.

I had a meeting recently with the representatives of the residents and one of the main issue which was highlighted by them, was the frequent sewage problems and what was disappointing was that, the developer did not take any initiatives to assist the residents to maintain the sewerage systems and to make it even worst, the developer did not even handover the responsibility to IWK or even to the Majlis Daerah Hulu Selangor.

Over 500 residents have been suffering from sewerage problems due to the abandoned sewerage systems.

After a few meetings with IWK, I am pleased to inform that today IWK with the assistance from the Hulu Selangor District Council, we resolved their problems, they have finally removed the accumulated sludge from the 'oxidation pond', which was built about 17 years ago in 1993. The removal of the sludge is critical to preserve the environment and prevent pollution in the area.

The resident we facing massive problems, frequent spillages of wastewater at the manholes and back flow of wastewater occurred in the houses, commercial and industrial premises in the area.

I was also informed that the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) will be calling a meeting with the Hulu Selangor District Council to discuss on a permanent solution to restore the entire sewerage systems at Taman Idaman before surrendering to IWK for on-going operations and maintenance.

Once again I would like to thank IWK for undertaking to resolve this problem as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility, my gratitude also goes to SPAN and the Hulu Selangor District Council for working together in resolving PEOPLE'S PROBLEMS.

I do hope from now, residents would abstain from throwing solid waste into the toilet or sewerage systems to prevent recurring spillage and pollution of the environment, which are health hazardous.
